Position Overview:​​​

Under the supervision of the Director of the Education Support Program, the Education Support Staff will provide educational and behavioural support to learners in a classroom-like setting. ​During the day, staff work within our home-school support program, serving a small classroom of learners over the age of 6 from Monday to Thursday, approximately from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This program operates in partnership with home-school organizations and is run directly from our center. The successful candidate would start in September 2026.

The program is led by our Director of the Education Support Program and focuses on supporting individualized learning goals through structured instruction, individual and group academic support, small-group activities, and behavioural supports. We use Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principles to help support all students with social conflicts, emotional regulation, building independence, problem solving, and more.

This role requires flexibility, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to effectively apply ABA principles while maintaining consistency, professionalism, and high-quality care across environments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Educational & Classroom Support 

• Assist in educating students in accordance with their IEP goals and behaviour plans using a variety of learning techniques, communication strategies, and behavioural supports 

• Apply ABA principles consistently (such as the ‘Least to Most Prompt Hierarchy’) to build skills and reduce challenging behaviours 

• Build and maintain rapport with students and staff 

• Problem solve and manage challenging situations effectively 

• Guide individuals and small groups in educational, creative, structured play, and social activities 

• Provide individual and group support with emotional regulation, social conflicts, problem-solving, flexible-thinking, building independence with daily living tasks, and more! 

• Assist with classwork, assignments, and classroom routines 

• Support students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, field trips, and transitions 

• Accompany and supervise students in outings to the library, park, swimming pool etc. 

• Assist with classroom maintenance and organization 

• Perform clerical and documentation-related tasks as required (i.e. data collection, daily work summaries including support level, and behavior notes). 

• Consistently communicate challenges, updates, and parent updates/questions to the Director of the program in a timely manner 

• Collaboration & Professional Expectations 

• Collaborate with teachers, consultants, and team members to support student success 

• Follow classroom plans, ABA principles and procedures, individualized behaviour plans, workplace policies, and supervision guidelines 

• Maintain professional communication and adhere to client confidentiality 

• Follow established schedules and procedures unless approved by supervision 

• Respond calmly and effectively to challenging situations 

• Flexible and responsive, adapting plans and expectations to meet individual learner needs in the moment. 

• Ability to build genuine rapport by engaging in play/humour and conversation around learner-preferred items and topics. 

• Ability to learn about student needs, sense of humour, and interests and use when appropriate to gain and maintain instructional control

Qualifications: 

• A related degree/diploma such as ABA, Psychology or Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience 

​

Requirements:

• Valid BC Drivers License with a clean Drivers Abstract and reliable transportation 

• Clear Criminal Records Check re: working with vulnerable population 

• Professional, positive attitude and appearance 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

• Comfortable working with children and teenagers in center and in the community 

• Enjoy playing with children and teens, being silly, and learning about child’s interests 

• Ability to implement all aspects of programs  

• Have an open and flexible schedule

Preference will be given to those who: 

• Have a related degree such as ABA, Psychology or Early Childhood Education 

• CPR and First Aid Certified 

• Have experience with Applied Behaviour Analysis and/or managing challenging behaviours in children and teens 

• Training and/or education related to working with individuals with ASD
